50, passed away on Sunday, Sept 23rd, 2018 at home surrounded by her loving family and friends.
She was the daughter of Salomao and Maria Monteiro. She is survived by her two loving children, Victor and Marlena. She is also survived by her brothers Sal Monteiro Jr, Carlos Monteiro, and Lucas Monteiro, and her sister, Teresa Silva. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends whom she loved dearly.
Mercedes was born and raised in Providence R.I. She worked at the RI Historical Preservation & Heritage Commission, helping the many cultures in RI celebrate their independence, holidays and traditions thru music, art and dance. She loved organizing chaos and putting events together. The one thing that all cultures and countries have in common is the desire for a better and peaceful life for their children and themselves. Mercedes was admired and well respected by all who knew her.
What a woman! What a sister! What a friend!

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, September 27th at 10am in the Church of Holy Name of Jesus, 107 Camp St, Providence. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Providence. Visitation will be held Wednesday, September 26th from 5pm until 8pm in the Keefe Funeral Home, Five Higginson Ave, Lincoln.
